Main targets and directions of Section's work:
- coordination of work f Russian libraries and other organizations, which create and use bibliographical information, with the aim of satisfying common requirements of the society;
- help in solving problems, connected with national bibliographical registration;
- help in forming and optimal usage of informational bibliographical resources of the country, based on application of computer network technologies, monitoring of informational bibliographical software;
- development and application of new methods of diffusion of knowledges by bibliographical means;
- help in development of bibliography;
- initiating scientific researches, connected with bibliographical problems;
- organizing professional cooperation of specialists in the sphere of bibliography, in Russia and abroad;
- help in professional training and re-training of specialists in the sphere of bibliography; help in development of the system of continued professional education;
- development of the publicity of bibliographical production and service.
Work of the Section is intented to accomplish it's task, according to which the Section:
initiates the development of normative documents, suggestions and recomendations for governing bodies;
- takes part in discussion and examination of standards and projects of standards and other normative documents, which regulate bibliographical activity in Russia and abroad;
- organize discussions, conferences, seminars, symposiums, special meetings and other arrangements, with the aim to discuss the most urgent bibliographical questions;
- take part in work of comissions of experts and comissions of contests, give conclusions, opinions, review of scientific works, reference books and bibliographical editions, educational programs, educational editions for the system of bibliographical education; presents works and nominate specialists for participating in professional contests and inspections;
- collects information and statistics in the sphere, connected with it's job, give recomendations and consultations in theoretical and practical bibliographical questions;
- takes part in work of special methodical and coordinative organs (councils, commissions), established by the ministries, departments, libraries and institutes, representing common opinion of the library community, in the name of RLA.
