Targets and tasks:
- Development of merhodical problems of historical and library researches.
- Propagation of methods of historical and library researches.
- Creation of tribune for publication and discussion of results of regional researches (publications in collection "Library history: researches, documents, publications", All-Russian conferences - "History of Russian libraries" in National Library of Russia and "Library in historical context" in Russian state humanitarian university, support of regional conferences).
- Coordination of researches and collecting information, which is necessary for researchers in library history (enlargement and more active usage of date base of Russian libraries, which was created in NLR, centralization of information from regional date bases, provision researchers with that information).
- Creation of reference books and collections about library history.
