Purposes and tasks:
Consolidation of art libraries, also establishments and organizations whose professional interests are connected with the activities of those libraries, with the purpose of solving problems, which are topical for all humanitarian organizations, and drawing attention of public, governmental and state organizations to those problems.
Orientations of the activity:
This section unites special libraries and departments of art literature of different libraries. It consists of Russian state art library, Scientific library of A. S. Pushkin State museum of fine arts, M. I. Glinka State central museum of musical culture, All-Russian museum of decorative-applied and folk arts, departments of art literature RSL, ARLFA, some provincial scientific universal libraries, State theatrical library of Saint-Petersburg, A. P. Bogolubov art library of Moscow etc. This section coordinates cooperation of activities in different spheres, including bibliographical and informational activities, training of specialists and improvement of their qualification. Several programs are active now: Museum libraries, Books for interchange, Permanent educating of librarians, specializing in art, based on museums and libraries, Exhibitions, Corporative inventory of art magazines. etc.
This section assists in development of productive professional contacts both in country and abroad; organizes meetings, conferences, educating and informational seminars; assists in interchange of experience of domestical and foreign specialists, professional relations, including getting grants, letters, recommendations.
